Background Aquarius

AEP are a niche venture fund capital manager based in the North of England. It is run by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs. They launched the Northern Entrepreneurs Fund £20M in November 2007 providing equity investments in high growth businesses across the region. On the the back of the success of the NEF, Aquarius launched their second fund Aquarius Origin Fund in June of this year which provides funding to innovative young businesses.

The Mandate/Outcome

The management team at Aquarius Equity partners wanted a conservative PR campaign to promote the NEF they wanted to gradually build up their profile, focusing on targeted regional publications and industry websites, which would demonstrate their key sector knowledge and expertise. The campaign achieved this through a targeted regional campaign. Following the launch of their second fund the Aquarius Origin Fund we secured them coverage in the leading financial press The Financial Times earlier this year. The principals are sought regularly by the media to provide commentary and opinion on the private equity market and seed funding.

Business Awards Panel (2007 -2008)

Background

The MIA is supported by a group of local sponsors from both the private and public sector. It aims to recognise and reward the use of innovation as a means of boosting growth and profitability. Open to individuals or companies with less than 50 employees who are based within Merseyside, they can win £10,000 in cash, £4,000 worth of legal, business, accounting or design consultancy; support from some of the region's leading business advisors; and publicity for the idea.

The Mandate/outcome

Marketing had to work with all of the ten sponsors to raise and maintain the profile of the awards. As it is a local award the challenge was to attract the interest of the local media and local City networks which presented its own challenges as MIA is just one of many business awards requiring coverage. We fought off tough competition and consistently secured key profile for the MIA. The outcome of the press campaign was very successful for both 2007 and 2008. All of the monthly winners were regularly featured by the agreed target press and the coup was getting the local recognised business media ( LDP City Talk) desk to cover the 2008 Awards Ceremony. The event received prime position in all the key regional press. The winner also was interviewed for the weekly Business show, City Talk, aired the following Sunday.

Business angel network

Background

DreamCatchers Liverpool is a network of wealthy individuals interested in investment opportunities in the region’s hottest new businesses. DCL is non-profit making and is supported by six key sponsors. The DCL team up with the NWDA every quarter to deliver one of their events.

Mandate/outcome

Raising awareness of the events was the main PR objective. Because the events were only held four times a year a fair amount of work had to be invested into the time leading up to the events. With no marketing budget Marketing still managed to pull it off.

Book publisher

Background

The second of a trilogy written by adopted Liverpudian, Arabella McIntyre- Brown. Sponsored by four local city professionals, the book looked at the entrepreneurial spirit and the varying guises with which it presents itself. AMB conducted a variety of interviews with some of the region’s best known financial and social entrepreneurs.

The Mandate/outcome

Marketing was required to cover the local pre and post launch public relations campaign. The challenges with this project were managing the extremely busy schedules of the sponsors and satisfying the varying expectations of the publishers and sponsors alike. The book launch itself was attended by over 300 people and was a resounding success.
